Doorlight Publications is a small publishing company dedicated to creating a home for unique books that are marketed and distributed to small to medium niche audiences around the world.
The story of Doorlight Publications is a personal story that began with a manuscript and a family. The manuscript was Jars of Clay, written by Pauline Brown, about a group of ordinary people crossing cultural and linguistic barriers to take on the extraordinary challenge of establishing the Church in the Sindh desert of Pakistan. While navigating the challenges of finding a good publisher, Pauline’s family decided to create their own niche publishing company, removing layers of bureaucracy and frustration in the publishing process. In 2006, Doorlight Publications was born.
Rumors of Doorlight Publications unique publishing model were difficult to contain, and we started to hear from other authors. Our list grew to encompass theology of the environment, linguistics, satire, poetry, third culture kids, women’s history, and children’s literature. All this without paid staff, office, warehouse, or inventory.
Now, 14 years later, we have learned a lot about the publishing industry, writing, and working with our authors. Careful editing, beautiful cover design, and personal attention to each author are just some of the hallmarks of Doorlight’s unique model. We continue as a proud family operation dedicated to bringing beautifully crafted, well written, and challenging books to the world.
Doorlight Publications follows a standard publishing model. We only accept manuscripts that we are confident will sell well enough to cover editorial costs, cover design, and printing. We are not a vanity press. If we accept a manuscript there is generally no cost to the author for standard design and publishing services. Authors who wish to contact us about a manuscript or publishing idea should send an initial inquiry via the contacts page on this site. If we think your work fits our publishing model and priorities, we will invite you to send a full manuscript. All manuscripts are sent out for independent review before we agree to publish.
