“Where is my sister? takes us on a journey through the streets and homes of Sindh, Pakistan, where we meet women of different backgrounds. We sit with Pauline Brown in her kitchen, on the sofa in her sitting room, in the homes of Shareefa, Rasheeda, Meena (and many others) and hear stories that give us glimpses of their lives. Pauline Brown introduces us to a missiology of the everyday, what it means to be a wife and mother who responds to God’s call and seeks to live that out in the relationships of everyday. These stories point us to the profound possibilities of faithful living.”   Cathy Hine, Co-founder, When Women Speak

Editorial Reviews

“My generation is hungry, I believe, for stories of those who have gone before us and have fought the good fight, kept the faith, finished the race well. This is a story of that kind, a story of hard, joyful, satisfying faithfulness.”  Rachel Pieh Jones, author of Stronger than Death

“Where is My Sister?is a thoughtful and inspiring book, full of insights into the daily lives and spiritual journeys of women from southern Pakistan’s Christian, Muslim and Hindu communities. Some of the stories are heart-breaking; others conclude on an uplifting note, introducing to a wider audience the often surprising interior lives of provincial Sindhi women whose voices are rarely heard.”  Jonathan Addleton, former US Ambassador to Mongolia and author of The Dust of Kandahar and Some Far and Distant Place

Jars of Clay by Pauline Brown

Out of the generation that grew up in the Great Depression and World War II, thousands of young Christians felt called by God to the ends of the earth. Pauline A. Brown, with her husband Ralph, and two other families, went to the Sindh Province in southern Pakistan in 1954 — their goal, to share God’s message love with Muslim Sindhis. This book is not just about North Americans abroad, but about a fellowship of ordinary people crossing cultural and linguistic barriers to take on the extraordinary challenge of establishing the Church in the Sindh desert. Jars of Clay is a story of laughter and tears, of danger and deliverance, of despair and hope, of victory and defeat. Above all, it is a story of perseverance in the face of great odds. The story of how the Church of Jesus Christ, small and fragile as it is, is taking root in the barren desert soil of Sindh in Pakistan, an Islamic Republic, is relevant more than ever in our post 9/11 world.

Great is Thy Faithfulness by Bernice Foss is not only the title of this book, it is also the enduring theme of Bernice Foss’ life. As a young student at Columbia Bible College in 1950, Bernice felt God calling her to serve Him as a missionary in Africa. Without hesitation, this young woman from a small town in central Maine embarked on a journey to answer His call. For over thirty-six years she served in the Belgian Congo (later Zaire), teaching, discipling and encouraging her beloved African students. At the end of her years of missionary service, she came home facing an ongoing struggle with cancer. This is the inspiring story of a modest woman who has touched the lives of many people by living her steadfast belief in God’s faithfulness. As a pebble tossed into a lake sends out ever-widening circles, so the circles of blessings extending from her life continue to touch lives around the world today.
